There are two specimens (#1 & #2) that I think may be the same species though there are some differences. The collection DATES for the two specimens are given in the photo captions.

Habitat: #1 among herbaceous plants on shoulder of gravel driveway; #2 in center of same driveway.

Growth style: scattered individuals & small clusters.

Cap: to about 3 cm, convex, margin rolled over, brown/tan center, white at margin, hygrophanous; specimen #2 with veil remnants on margin.

Gills: attached, broad, somewhat coarse, unequal, tan.

Stipe: length to about 6 cm, 0.6 cm base thinning toward apex, veil remnant apparent especially on #2; color as gills at apex, darker below veil ring.

Spores: brown, broadly elliptical, avg 15.1×11.0 μm. (data & photos are #1 only).

Tests: NaOH, FeSO4, NH4OH all negative. Flesh tan. Taste & smell not distinctive.

are given in the photo captions. I should have also added that although the two specimen locations were connected to the same driveway, the driveway length is 1600+ feet, and the specimens were 100s of feet apart.

The reported spore size…

does not support either of my proposals. But the photos look quite a bit like H. mesophaeum, as seen on Mushroom Expert.

What was the collection date for these? I’m assuming terrestrial mushrooms are not currently occurring in the southern Adirondack region.
