Observation 193394: Mycena epipterygia (Scop.) Gray

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing in a large mature pine. Growing out of wood.

Cap Sticky. Bell-shaped cap. Cap diameter at base of bell, 1.8 cm.
Scalloped edges. Surface of cap can be peeled off.

Stem white – 4 cm long.

spicy smell when crushed.

Gills cream color shading to light yellow toward the cap surface. Notched, slightly decurrent. Has a few reddish brown spots.

Spore print – slightly off-white

Spores – smooth – some slightly mis-shaped – a few egg shaped.

Spore Size –
[20/1/1] L (9.1-) 10.0-11.5 (-11.6) μm x W (6.6-) 7.2-8. (-8.9) μm,
(L = 10.7 μm, W = 7.8 μm), Q (1.24-) 1.27-1.49 (-1.58), Q=1.38 ellipsoid
