No herbarium specimen

Notes: Small cap – 2 inches across. Glutinous layer on top of cap and base of stalk. Cap is bright white under the brown jelly-like substance on the cap cuticle. The cuticle could be easily peel back removing the jelly layer and cuticle.

Taste – none

Smell – foetid on the large cap.

KOH on cap and gills – negative

Large cap – 3 inches across. Gelatinous layer on top of cap, all over stalk and all over gills. The jelly like layer is about 1/8 inch thick.

Cap Flesh – white, soft, not brittle.

Stalk – 1.5 cm wide, white with short fiber tufts. Stalk is slightly tapered, wider at apex. Rooted in soil. The bottom 1/4 is also covered with the same jelly, you can see that the jelly is yellowish, about 1/16 inch thick.

No staining or bruising when cut, broken. No liquid, lactose from cuts and breaks.

Gills, bright white, close, adnate, a little decurrent. * soft, not thick, not brittle*

Spore Print – white – but in progress to obtain more

Clamp connections present in stalk.

Hygrophorus occidentalis – spore size doesn’t match

Hygrophorus occidentalis is very similar but the spore sizes and shape are different.
