Notes: Quercus and Aesculus californica nearby. Cap yellow with reddish-brown stains, slightly viscid on younger specimens. Gills light purple to brown. Bulbous base.

Live oak?

The leaves look like live oak, maybe Q. agrifolia due to the convex shape? A way to differentiate the interior live oak (Q. wislizeni) is to check the underside of the living leaves, Q. agrifolia will have “hairy armpits” at the base of the veins while Q. wislizeni doesn’t, if both occur in the area hybrids can be confusing…
