Daniel, thanks, okay this observation applies to the upper, larger fungus.

Not sure which fungus you are referring to, Joe.

The upper fungus, with pinched center, may be an Otidea. The lower fungus is a Peziza.

Solution? Make the observation 2, by calling the upper, larger fungus one observation, and the lower fungus a Peziza.
