The fungus beetle family generally feeds on Ganoderma nationwide. Whichever one lives in the Hoh must have loved this young aborted oregon reishi. Excellent pics btw… Never seen Ganoderma and Fomitopsis fruiting atop one another… Weird because usually a substrate log will be mostly run with a single conk species mycelium before you ever see a conk form- in my experience Fomitopsis mycelium out competes any other conk when infecting Doug fir and hemlock.
