they are both probably bad names for CA species, and even if they aren’t a bit of voodoo mycology is involved:

at mykoweb, Mushroom Expert and NA Boletes by BRB Boletus spadiceus seems as likely as Xerocomus subtomentosus for this obs given the strong bluing on the pores, the reddening of the flesh under the cap cuticle and the whitish stem with longitudinal lines at the apex. What am I missing? Anyone?
