Observation 196183: Gymnopus spongiosus (Berk. & M.A. Curtis) Halling

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing in Oak and mixed hardwood woods, on slope dropping down to small stream. Growing in ones, pairs and small groups on mycellium coated leaves.

Cap: Dry: to 2 inch diameter.

Gills: Close, short gills, beginnings of cross-gills. Adnate, slightly attached. see photos with half cap.

Stem: Fibrous, hollow, covered with reddish-brown hairs over length.

KOH on cap caused an olive-green discoloration.
