Observation 196459: Stereum Hill ex Pers.

When: 2014-11-09

Collection location: Staunton Harold Reservoir, Derbyshire, England [Click for map]

Who: Rowan Puttergill (roboro)

No specimen available

The fact that this was on a decaying pine and the darker colouring convinced me that this was Conifer Disco as opposed to Bisporella Citrina, however I am open to this being reclassified if there is strong enough consensus in the other direction.

I never even considered the possibility at the time. Looking at the picture in more detail, it is possible.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the observation date, this was nearly 3 months ago, so I would be unable to do any follow-up investigation. Furthermore, the specimen was located some distance from where I live, so the likelihood that I will be in the area again soon is small.

We may have to leave this open. I will reduce the confidence of my vote.

This looks to me to be a young Stereum species, and not an ascomycete, as you propose. Could you check for asci ? and perhaps follow the development of these specimens to see whether they are going to flatten out more?
