Recognized by sight: Can’t find anything like it in my books. Growing in the middle of a logging road, almost looked like fresh deer droppings

I found some other H. vespertina specimens in that area

not growing on wood

This was growing terrestrially out of a sandy and well traveled forest road. If it was growing out of wood, the wood would have been several inches under the sand packed road.
