Observation 196907: Gymnopilus spectabilis group
When: 2014-12-20
(37.4466° -8.762° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These seemed abundant along the roadside, growing out of large stumps of deadwood. The area had a mixture of pine and eucalyptus.
The mushrooms were very brightly coloured and seemed to grow pretty large. I was also struck by the thickness of the stipe.

That was my first guess, but I had never seen one in the wild before, so wasn’t sure. Thanks.
