Observation 197320: Ganoderma P. Karst.
When: 2013-10-03
(43.1608° -79.2303° )
Who: SaraJE
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Another fungus found on a log located on the ground. It caught my eye as the fungus blended so nicely with the wood.

Recognized by sight: The now dull cap appears to be either an old G. applanatum without new spore collection on cap or an old member of the varnished Ganoderma clade- G. tsugae(only on conifer, mostly hemlock), G. oregonense(Western species, very large), G. resinaceum(Smaller varnish shelf, grows on hardwoods generally). Google Ganoderma and invest in Mycelium running, All the rain promises and more(both by David Arora). There are over 300 species of Ganoderma currently. Great picture BTW!
