Observation 197322: Pezizales J. Schröt.
When: 2015-01-28
(36.097° -115.092° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found these two clumps in my backyard and wasn’t sure if it’s a fungus or a type of insect nest. Was told it is probably a fungus. These are near trees but not totally shaded all day.

Clump1 Near Willow Tree
Clump2 Near Oleander Trees

You need to separate these 2 photos, then post again. And you need to dig both up carefully (there may be a base present), cut at least the second one in half, and take another picture or two of both.

The first photo is probably a Peziza or Geopora arenicola. The second could be a Geopora cooperi or similar fungus: I can’t be sure until I see the center of the fungus.

Both appear to be fungi, at least that part is correct. The second one may be a kind of truffle.
