Observation 197557: Laccaria ochropurpurea (Berk.) Peck

When: 2013-09-23

Collection location: Fairmont Springs, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Phil Yeager (gunchky)

No specimen available

Medium sized mushroom with pale lilac attached gills. Stipe white with what appears to be lilac tints near the apex. Cap greyish lilac with a darker disc and apressed fibrils. Found in mixed woods with Betula present and no Fagis anywhere near this location. Thought it may have been C. lilacinus, but the gills are attached. Also considered C. azureus, but I’m led to believe that species is a European fungus, and is found with Fagis present.

forget, meaning myself. Assumed it was Cortinarius due to the gill colors matching species of Corts. and didn’t research further. Completely forgot about MO obs. #144916 which was found 20 days later in basically the same location. THanks. I appreciate your comments and observations.
