This past-its-prime, tattered specimen was found growing alone from the side of a well rotted hardwood log in wet, bottomland forest conditions. Still recognizable with its black, offset stem and tiny pores.

Is that a name change or an altogether different mushroom? It seems that even my reference books with the most current publication dates (e.g, 2014) are already outdated. You must work 24/7 to keep up.
