Sticky Brownish caps with appressed fibrils or scales. Flesh white, discoloring pinkish then blackish after some time. Pores white, bruising tanish. Stipe white but covered with black scabers, and enlarging towards base. Found in mixed woods with Quercus, Acer, Pinus, and Betula lenta. Wanted to post L. aurantiacum, but that is a European species. L. insigne lacks a red staining phase.
