Truffle – like fungi found below ground surface area in soft wet Semi-rainforest soil. Area is shaded but open ground area where I have found similar fungi in the past. This specimen was firm and oblong and larger than previous finds. When the fungi was bisected the surface area was wet and some light colour staining occured near the cap end of the fungi.he texture was firm to touch and cut.

seems to show basal attachment at two locations. MO 197644 has multiple sporocarps, so it is possible they are at least related. I’d think primordium of multiple sporocarps would be better developed than this though.

Comments are always fair and guiding. Do you think this could be related to the Obs 197644 ?? they were in close proximity.

Sorry to be a spoil sport,

but an immature fungus, Ian. Don’t think this is a truffle. Just a primordium of a mushroom. No differentiated tissue or structures present.
