Observation 197766: Aspicilia A.Massal.

Notes: on quartzite; small grassy-rocky bench on broad northwestern ridge of summit, geology a mixture of siliceous metamorphic rocks; on broad ridge about 0.5 miles northwest of west peak (about 75m west of main peak)

thallus thick strongly verrucose-bullate dark brown with white mottling around apothecia and pycnidia, margin subradiate determinate, prothallus lacking entirely, medulla K-, apothecia inset black epruinose roundish 1, epihymenium green turning brown in K, hymenium tall ~150-175um, paraphyses with 3-5 globose cells, spores abundant 8 per ascus subglobose ~20-25×15-20um (in ascus), conidia filiform straight ~18-23um

(Also note the Caloplaca growing on it. This is a common parasite in the aline near the Great Basin. I can’t find a name for it.)
