Observation 197767: Caloplaca Th. Fr.
When: 2014-10-04
(38.9912° -114.3207° 3673m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: on Aspicilia on quartzite; small grassy-rocky bench on broad northwestern ridge of summit, geology a mixture of siliceous metamorphic rocks; on broad ridge about 0.5 miles northwest of west peak (about 75m west of main peak)

This is a common parasite in the alpine near the Great Basin. Most common host is Aspicilia, but also on Lecidea atrobrunnea and occasionally others.

I’ve only seen it fertile a couple times, and have never been able to successfully collect it fertile. (It likes to grow in crevices and in the center of large flat faces. Grumble.)
