Observation 197936: Lecanora Ach.

Notes: on quartzite and Lecanora novomexicana on quartzite; rocky broad northwestern ridge of summit, geology a mixture of siliceous metamorphic rocks; on broad ridge about 0.4 miles northwest of west peak (about 75m west of main peak)

thallus strongly bullate dull pale gray K+y P+y slow C- KC- UV-, medulla loose and thick, apothecia strongly constricted becoming very convex and hiding margin, margins thalline but somewhat blackened inside, disk black to faintly pale pruinose, epihymenium dark black-green turning vivid green in K and with coarse POL+ granules on top clearing completely in K, amphithecium filled with fine soluble and coarse insoluble crystals, amphithecial cortex filled with fine brownish soluble POL+ granules, spores 8 per ascus (11)12+/-0.6(13)x(6)7+/-0.5(7.5)um Q=(1.6)1.8+/-0.1(2.0) (N=7)

This comes out somewhere near L. cenisia, L. argentea, and L. gangaleoides… but is apparently none of the above. Some other specimens were clearly parasitic. See also observation 197948 and observation 197957.
