Observation 197946: Aspicilia cinerea (L.) Körber

on quartzite; rocky broad northwestern ridge of summit, geology a mixture of siliceous metamorphic rocks; on broad ridge about 0.3 miles northwest of west peak (about 75m west of main peak)

thallus areolate whitish with orange rust stains ~smooth to faintly verruculose, medulla K+y-r norstictic crystals present, apothecia common contorted to confluent blackwith ~even rims, epihymenium olive turning brown in K, hymenium ~100um, paraphyses 2-4 globose to subglobose cells, spores 8 per ascus ~15-18×9-10um, conidia 10-15um averaging 12-13um
