Observation 197948: Lecanora Ach.

Notes: on Lecanora novomexicana and Aspicilia on quartzite; rocky broad northwestern ridge of summit, geology a mixture of siliceous metamorphic rocks; on broad ridge about 0.3 miles northwest of west peak (about 75m west of main peak)

thallus gray shiny areolate to subsquamulose growing on thallus of host or spilling over onto rock, cortex K+y slow but strong C- KC- P+y slow UV-, medulla K- C- KC- P- UV-, apothecia black epruinose to strongly pruinose, rims thalline to black or excluded smooth even to slightly prominent when thalline, epihymenium dark black-green turning greener in K POL+ clearing in K, amphithecium POL+ clearing somewhat but coarse crystals persisting in K, spores 8 per ascus ellipsoid ~11-13×6-8um

This comes out somewhere near L. cenisia, L. argentea, and L. gangaleoides… but is apparently none of the above. Some other specimens were not as clearly parasitic. See also observation 197936 and observation 197957.
