It would be an odd occurrence for the odor of green corn to remain undetected for so long in the eastern species. I think microscopy could solve this pretty easily.

But that name has been applied to western material, and no western material has yet been sequenced. Also the odor is tough to detect for some people, which further confounds the issue.

I didn’t suggest C. subviolaceus because it lacks the green corn odor.

Although C. nordmanensis is the western name (the one I consider most likely, esp on account of odor), there’s also C. subviolaceus to consider.
