Observation 198223: Ganoderma resinaceum group

When: 2015-02-06

Collection location: Dalton, Georgia, USA [Click for map]

Who: Stephen (Ιερονυμοσ)

Specimen available

Growing near Pinus taeda. However, I suspect at one time there was some sort of deciduous tree present where these grow. They grow at a regular interval each year and persist well into the summer when not being actively removed by maintenance crew.

I will be sure to keep an eye out for better looking specimens to represent this observation.

Members of the Ganoderma resinaceum complex can grow on conifer. See my observation (187516) found growing from the stump of a Juniper.I have also seen people reporting it growing on spruce.

I strongly suspect it is the same species as that that grows on hardwood. The one in my observation was cultured and the culture sent to Dr. Robert Blanchette for sequencing.
