No herbarium specimen

Notes: Hadn’t found these before, and this time I find a big grouping of these. Some 6-8 in. across in size. So, don’t know, it is a good year for these.

The second photo is a close-up of the gill attachment at the stipe. It shows here how the gills are starting to show pores. I think some believe this is a evolutionary half-way point between gills and the pores of boletes.

At the Fungus Fed. fair setup, there were a lot of these brought in, and many very large. I can’t remember, but I don’t think so many large specimens were brought in in the past, so I think it is a strangely good year for these.
