Observation 198814: Ganoderma oregonense Murrill

When: 2015-02-14

Collection location: near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Drew Henderson (Hendre17)

No specimen available

Parasitizing Western hemlock. Most conks were at least a foot across.

Elevation: 3000ft.

Temp: 58.

Winterized reishi this time of year- no white pithy leading edge(as in fast growing summer months), or hues of orange and white on varnished surface, fully mature. These Ganoderma grow in a startlingly fast manner. I have monitored reishi that have gone from a small primordial button on the edge of a Western hemlock in late July to a fully expanded flat varnish shelf within only a month.
