Observation 198995: Amanita sect. Lepidella sensu Bas
When: 2015-02-12
0 Sequences

Some fungi just seem to have that WOW Factor, or maybe I am a bit strange. When I found this single specimen standing proud and erect in all its glory I stood and marveled at it and its seemingly spiritual existence. I believe it may be a common species in some areas of Oz but not really so in my haunts.
Area open Eucalyptus and semi Rainforest with good ground coverage of leaves and forest debris. Only single specimen sighted.
Maybe Amanita ochrophylloides. Cap with large warts and fungi salmon in colour. I can only discern one ring on the stipe which leads me to the choice of A.ochrophylloides. (Could belong to the Amanita ochrophylla group?). Fungi was firm when handled. Dried specimen saved for RET……….

We have received this material and it has been accessioned to Rod’s herbarium. We have scheduled it for DNA sequencing.
