Notes: Same exact tree/substrate(Western hemlock tree from this post)http://mushroomobserver.org/198813?q=2W5Pn.
Montane habitat- approx. 3000ft.
Fruiting body was completely dried out and light as a feather(except for shiny cap, from rain). After harvesting this and one other specimen from a snag nearby, we headed home and let them completely dry on a shelf in the garage. I have been asked by fellow mushroom observer member MSchink to send him these specimens for further study. I look forward to the results and hopefully clearer view into the Ganoderma varnish shelf clade in the Pacific Northwest- specifically with Western hemlock trees and stumps.
Different angles of the same Western hemlock tree in the attached post from one week ago.
Updated information and images to come- 2/20/15
*Mailed herbarium specimen from this post to MSchink for spore and possible DNA analysis. http://mushroomobserver.org/observer/show_user/5694.
