for taking such a close look at my observation and for taking the time to educate me. Your eagle-eye (the stuck pine needles) is a valuable lesson for me. The only other experience I’ve had with Suillus was S. americanus (my ob # 195498) and that mushroom was so slimy I could hardly get a grasp on it. I’ll be on the lookout now for clues that what I find may have been stickier before I came upon it. Good tip! Thanks again.

A lot of Suillus

dry out quickly and become metallic-looking. You can tell that the cap used to be gooey by the tightly stuck-on pine needles.
Also, the punctate (dotted) stipe surface is found primarily in the genus Suillus (among the boletes) in North America.

Thanks for looking at my observation, Christian; and

for your suggestion. Caps were not at all slimy, slippery, or scaley.
