Observation 19964: Lentinula lateritia (Berk.) Pegler
When: 2009-03-22
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This fungi is incredibly difficult to photograph. It does not have very distinctive gills and the cap has no real descriptive standouts except that there is some tissue fragmentation close to the perimeter of the cap. There was no annulus and no bulbus base. The stem was whitish for a better word but plain. This group were growing in an area that had recently received about 7 inches of rain. The log was on the ground with moss and some plant life existing. The log did show some fire damage. The fungi was of medium delicacy (touch not taste!)and there was no real discernable aroma., although I did show a fly on the mantle.
The stem was tending to be fibrous especially when broken.
