I was rather excited when I found this fungi. And going with what references I have again I cannot put a name to it. It was a single specimen. The colour of the mantle is a true representation of what I saw. The colour is difficult to describe except that it tends towards a combination of dark Blue to black but had a charcoal look to it from some angles. The mantle was about 1.5 inches across and the stipe was about 2, to 2.5inches in length. It was also interesting to note the way the base had some fine roots attached to it. There was some sings of the hairy covering starting to leave the stipe up near the mantle. This may have been due to age of the specimen.
