Observation 199716: Hypomyces aurantius (Pers.) Fuckel
When: 2015-02-21
Collection location: Sitka, Alaska, USA [Click for map]
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on rotting conifer log. Not sure whether orange is parasitic fungus on maybe Fomitopsis pinicola or if it’s just a bright orange polypore. The photos with dark spot show the positive KOH reaction.

has orange flesh too. Does not have the black attachment point (nor the perithecia imbedded in the flesh)

Both this and Hypomyces lactifluorum have the purple KOH reaction.
