Observation 200131: Hygrophorus Fr.
When: 2015-03-04
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Habitat: Under/Near oak/sage/poison oak. Had to brush away the duff to expose the cap.

Cap: 10 cm. dia.; Plane; white with much sand adhering; unornamented; funnel-like below.

Gills: semidecurrent; thin; close. Main gills run from stipe to cap edge with secondary and tertiary gills filling in. These appear to be real gills, not primitave as in cantharellus.

Stipe: 12 cm from end of gills to end of stipe, 14 cm overall length (top of cap to tip of stipe). Central. Tapering to a point at distal end with an obvious curve. Externally firm, internally soft, pithy. No staining, no odor, no taste.
