Observation 200478: Psathyrella (Fr.) Quél.
When: 2015-03-13

Notes: Growing in leaf litter, under logs and attached to hardwood. Nearest trees were Oak and Sweet Gum.

Smell – mild, insignificant.

Cortina – Smallest completed sealed. Opening cap still shows attachment at one place.

Cap – 2.25 inch Diameter. Surface is tan, slick when wet, not sticky when dry.

Gills – Attached to stem. Pale brown for intermediate caps. Brown for largest mature cap. Cream color for small caps. Gills are forked. Spacing almost close.

Stipe -Cream color. 4.5 inch long, 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch wide at base. Fuzzy mycellium for lower 1.25 inch of largest mature specimen. Thick root like attachment from bottom of stipe to wood, 4 inches long.

Spore Print – dark brown

Spore Data – [20/1/1] L (-7.8) 7.9 – 10.0 (-10.4) μm x W (-) 4.4 – 5.9 (-6.0) μm, (L = 8.5 μm, W = 4.7 μm), Q (-1.69) 1.70 – 1.88 (-), Q = 1.80 Elongate with a pore. Smooth, dark brown in KOH.

Microscopic Features -
Pleurocystidia utriform. ??? Not Sure.
Pileipellis hymeniform/cellular.
