I agree, DNA sequencing could resolve this problem.

Looking at internet photos it appears to me that D. fastigiata looks very much like what in North America would be called D. brunnea. Through the years all the names for Gyromitra/Discina have been mixed up and interchanged. Maaybe DNA will put and end to the confusion.

Hello Walt,

At the “Species Fungorum” these two species are not listed as synonyms.
If they are not the same species by which characteristics we distinguish them?
