Observation 202400: Ganoderma oregonense Murrill
When: 2015-04-04

Notes: Fantastic heart shaped(fusion of two fruiting bodies) Reishi found on a fallen Western hemlock stump. We immediately placed this in the oven at 415F when we got home from Olympia… The red varnish will harden quickly(like pottery in a kiln) and turn jet black. As it cools it will develop purple, blue, reddish tones and stay preserved and vanished for years to come. To increase the staying power of the lacquer look— simply brush olive or vegetable oil with essential cedar oil. Not only will it strengthen your newly dried Reishi spiritually(from the cedar), but you will also have a varnished Buddha looking reishi for the rest of your life ;-)

Elevation: sea level.

Temp: mid 50’s, rain off and on.

Pores underneath reveled 2-3per mm(G.oregonense).

Herbarium specimen available.
