Observation 202401: Ciboria rufofusca (O. Weberb.) Sacc.

Notes:
Found freshly fruiting on a Douglas fir cone. I have found species similar in the past on Doug fir cones, never an Asco with stems tho… Really vibrant purple hues when in the sunlight.

Herbarium specimen available- I kept the entire cone with all FB’s in situ(so to speak).

I remember Damon B. of MO having some really keen interest in cone fruiting fungi. Anything you got regarding this odd fungi will be a blessing brother Damon!

Elevation: Sea level.

Temp: mid 50’s.

Attached below is our only other encounter with C.rufofusca. Similar habitat, elevation and temps.
