Observation 202779: Fusicolla merismoides (Corda) Gräfenhan, Seifert & Schroers
When: 2015-04-11
No herbarium specimen

Notes: In a small thicket alongside a power-cut through a residential community, this slime mold was literally dripping globs onto the leaves below. Plasmodial stage of life cycle??? I know next to nothing about slime molds and couldn’t find much information on the Internet. It certainly is a curiosity in motion.

I was doubtful when I posted this observation that anyone would know what it is. I’m elated that you both recognized it so easily. Matt, you are braver than I am. there is no way I was going to get my nose close to that icky, drippy specimen. Maybe next time I will get my courage up to take a good whiff. Sometime I’ll tell you the story of my first big whiff of a Phallus ravenelii. Now I can smell those in the woods when I am 10 feet away=)

one of my favorites

This stuff smells like sweet fermenting booze! I can smell it 20 feet away!
