The number of species of sect. Vaginatae in eastern North America is…

very large. Nearly all the species are undescribed. Despite more than two decades of working on this group, I cannot avoid the impression (why would I want to?) that there are many more species than I have seen in the field and in photographs.

This species is too yellow-tan for the group including “amerifulva” and “daimonioctantes.” Also, the coloring on the exterior of the universal veil is not the orange-brown or red-orange-brown that is very typical of the “amerifulva group.”

Well-dried and well-preserved specimens/collections that are depicted in MO photographs are very welcome for purposes of on-going research.

I can be contacted using the email feature of MO.

Very best,
