Wish I had more than my camera phone at the time. Definitely small. Cap the size of a penny., about 2" high. growing out of buried pine cone (possibly red pine).

Interesting mushroom!

In Japan, I’ve seen this mushroom several times, from 0m to 1300m above sea level.
It’s hosts were Pinus densiflora and Pinus thunbergii.
