this is a tricky genus. I have been aware of that for some time, but I find them fascinating nonetheless. My observation #198031 — Lentinus tigrinus var. squamosus was even trickier for me. I have uploaded one additional picture to this observation (taken this evening) of a dried specimen showing the slightly off-center stipe, though you did not say what alternate ID you propose … other than just dropping back to an uber safe genus level. My observation keyed out in Arora’s Key to Lentinus & Lentinellus as Lentinus tigrinus. Since it is impossible to do DNA , or even microscopy, on every MO observation, that’s about as far as I can go. I am comfortable with that. Thanks for all the effort you put into skimming through all the MO ID’s. It’s a huge job and I am appreciative of your diligence. Thank you also for the reference. It’s sure to be handy since , as I said, I am fond of this genus and will continue to expand my knowledge in this area.
