to use the second picture as the representative photo of this one. In cases where the cap is uniformly colored and not distinct (ie warts or patterning) gills and stalk tell more about mushroom identification than the cap.

In this case when I saw the first picture I thought, “How could someone say Hygrocybe (waxygill) from that pic. Looks more like a Blewit, Cort or some other dark-gilled mushroom from the cap.”

Not picking on you either Hans, just noticed that sometimes on this site when I see just the cap top as the first image and there isn’t a distinct feature to the cap (ie it’s just brown, tan or white), I’m more likely to say to myself “skip it.” or “save it for later” and then later may not come.
