on sheltered face of sandstone boulder; sandstone outcrop in open pinyon-juniper forest on ridge over very sandy noncalcareous soil; ridge beyond end of FR 1144, ca. 2 miles west of entrance to Maze District of Canyonlands National Park

pale to medium brown undulating thick cracked squamules with a little pruina along margins, apothecia red-brown to darker brown convex and marginless from the start apparently laminal, epihymenium red-brown K+r/v, spores 8 per ascus hyaline simple ~10×5um, medulla K- C- KC-
