I just took another look at the ring on your material.

I think it was originally funnel shaped and at the time you collected it, it was falling from that position. That and the yellowish cap tint suggest the possibility of A. velatipes.

We have just been working on newly arriving DNA sequences of ameripanthera.

I am fairly confident that its distribution is limited to western North America…at least that’s what the first bunch of data suggests. It’s usually a darker brown color, although I think it is sometimes pallid. It has a more clearly defined, raised ring of volva around the top of the bulb.

If you ever should dry a collection of the material you depict, I would be very interested in seeing a part of it.
