as an amanita, altho I can see where it sort of resembles the shaggy, non-MR Lepidella species like A. manicota.

Still, w/out a fruit body, no possible ID. Which other sp. of Catatrama are there, Rod? The only one that I could find described was C. costaricensis, which has a very different described macro-morph than what is shown here.

Thank you for your responses, Hans.

I’ve no recollection as to the substrate.

Also, the specimen seems to be growing on the ground.

But is that accurate? Was it growing on wood?

Very best,

Well, you covered a lot of bases Danny.

I notice that the gills seem attached. That doesn’t necessarily eliminate all Amanitaceae…especially species of sect. Lepidella sensu Bas. The spikes remind me of the decoration on the surface of the few known taxa of Catatrama. (The type came form Costa Rica.)

Illustrations for an Indian species of Catatrama are here:

Note that the gills are said to be free, and they seem so in Dr. Vrinda’s photographs.

Hans did you check the spores to see if they looked like old ship mines covered with spikes? If they are smooth, do you know their reaction to Melzer’s Reagent?

Very best
