Observation 20395: Calostoma rodwayi Lloyd
When: 2009-04-16
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Several specimens found on forest floor. All had some wet weather damage. I hesitated in using this (rodwayi) name because of the long fruiting bodies that are not shown in my reference. My reference only shows the specimens at ground level.

rodwayi v. fuscum

Ian, the difference between C. fuscum and C. rodwayi is that in fuscum there is a solid cap (exoperidium) that falls off and is usually lying on the ground somewhere nearby, whereas in rodwayi the outer layer does not fall off in one piece, but can remain partially attached near the mouth at the top (as in http://www.elfram.com/fungi/fungi_c/calrod_b.html). So far, C. fuscum is widespread but C.rodwayi is only with Nothofagus.
