Observation 204767: Coprinellus domesticus (Bolton) Vilgalys, Hopple & Johnson

When: 2015-05-20

Collection location: Central, Louisiana, USA [Click for map]

Who: Logan Wiedenfeld (LoganW)

No specimen available

I’m not sure what’s going on here. Are the apparent two organisms one and the same? Separate? Parasitism?

In any case, this, er, complex was growing from a downed limb, possibly from a magnolia.

… I was aware of that. I’ve just never seen the mycelium massed up and exteriorized like this. That’s why I thought I might be dealing with two different fungi.

Thank you, though. A striking organism.
