Roody suggests a difference in spore print colors between parvovirescens and crustosa, the former being white and the latter cream. These colors seem pretty close, but if I collect these types again I’ll try to remember to take prints on a white background and look for a contrast. Other differences mentioned by Kuo are microscopic. Other than these two species names, I am not aware of any other “quilted” eastern NA Russula.

and the patchwork of scales on the cap surface. The green with a slight bluish tinge points toward parvovirescens. I have found large (hand-sized) examples of what I consider to be parvovirescens. Django, viewed in zoom mode, your specimen shows very faint lines along the margin. In my experience, this is not a strong/consistent character with parvovirescens.

Here’s a similar observation obs 106785 .

Why parvovirescens?

Michael Kuo says “Russula parvovirescens is a gorgeous and distinctive russula, recently separated from the well-known traditional species Russula virescens. It is an eastern North American species that differs from the classic concept of Russula virescens in its blue-green colors, larger crustose patches, lined cap margin, generally smaller stature, and in its pileipellis.”

This mushroom has an unlined cap margin and was around the size of my hand. What characteristics point to parvovirescens and not just the virescens group?
