Like A. mellea have their primary seasons but can fruit most anytime conditions are right. I have found A, mellea in June before.

looking mushroom, and I believe that it is much to early in the season for A. mellea and/or group to appear. Sources Audubon etal. In my area (Northeastern Pa.), A mellea and groups appear in the fall when the temperature is much cooler. Since Va. is further South, your temperature is much higher than mine on the Eastern Seabord Lane. With global temperatures rising I find it implausible that this particular species is making an appearance South of the Mason-Dixon Line at this point in time.
