Observation 205594: Amanita flavoconia group

Notes: Smallish orangered mushroom with basal bulb suggestive of Amanitaceae. Growing from leaf litter surrounding willow oak. No annulus. White gills.

The cap is more orange…

than what I have considered to be A. elongata.

There is usually no orange in the cap of A. elongata

However, I really don’t know what to expect if we set up a program to attack sequencing of the “flavoconia group.” The similar groupin in East Asia is said to contain multiple probable species, but I don’t think any results have been published or sequences posted to GenBank.

It’s a matter of time, I guess.

In the second photo, I think I see the annulus still in place covering the gills. My guess is that this is a species in the flavoconia-elongata group of sect. Validae.
